Pourquoi parle-t-on de “Gin Botanique” ?

Why do we talk about “Botanical Gin”?

Behind the scenes of the creation of Botaurus Gin Avem

At first glance, the "Botanical Gin" category may seem a bit absurd. Gin is, by definition, a spirit that features botanicals, including the famous juniper berries. All gin is therefore naturally botanical, but why is it called "Botanical Gin" in this case?

A botanical affair since forever

From its very beginnings, gin has always been closely linked to plants and herbs. In fact, the word "gin" itself comes from the Dutch word jenever , meaning "juniper." Juniper berries are the essential ingredient in gin and give it its distinctive taste.

If all gins contain juniper berries, why do we need a specific category called "Botanical Gin"? Isn't that like saying a chocolate is a "chocolaty chocolate"?

A highlight of aromatic richness

While the term "Botanical Gin" may seem odd, it's intended to highlight gins that use a wider variety of botanicals beyond juniper berries. Distillers sought to accentuate the botanical DNA of their gin by creating this new designation.

In our opinion, "Gin Botanique" gets closer to the sources of gin and pays homage to the uniqueness of this brandy by highlighting the botanicals.

Liberating creativity

Since its inception, gin has been unafraid to venture off the beaten track and offer us a true revolution in flavors. Creativity and experimentation have always been at the heart of gin; it's a multifaceted spirit that's constantly reinventing itself!

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, our Avem Gins are constantly evolving. We strive to explore new botanical combinations, refine our distillation techniques, and innovate our creation methods to offer you ever richer and more captivating taste experiences.
